Pyramid Solitaire Rules
Objective:
In Pyramid Solitaire, the objective is to eliminate all the cards in the Pyramid by matching two cards whose ranks add up to 13. For example, you can match a 3 and a 10, or a 5 and an 8. The rank of each card corresponds to its face value, with an Ace being 1, Jack being 11, Queen being 12, and King being 13.
Gameplay:
- The Pyramid: The pyramid consists of 28 cards arranged in 7 rows. Each card is partially covered by two cards from the row above it.
- The Stock: This is a facedown pile located at the bottom left. It is used to draw cards and place them on the Waste pile.
- The Waste: This is a faceup pile next to the Stock. Cards from the Waste pile can be matched with cards in the Pyramid to eliminate them from play. For example, you can select a 4 from the Waste and match it with a 9 in the Pyramid. Both of these cards will then be placed in the Foundation pile.
- The Foundation: This is where cards that have been removed from the Pyramid are placed.
The objective of the game is to match cards together so that their ranks add up to 13. The available cards are any uncovered card in the Pyramid and the top card of the Waste pile. Initially, only the cards in the bottom row of the Pyramid are available, but as you remove cards from lower rows, cards from higher rows become accessible.
Allowed Moves:
- Flip cards from the Stock onto the Waste: You can do this by selecting the top card of the Stock.
- Move the top card of the Waste onto an open Pyramid card: Select the Waste card first and then select an available Pyramid card. The Pyramid card must not be covered by any other card from a lower row.
- Move a Pyramid card onto another Pyramid card: Both Pyramid cards must be available, with no other cards covering them. Select one Pyramid card and then select the other.
- Reset the Stock once it's empty: When you have moved all the cards from the Stock to the Waste, you can select the RESET button where the Stock was located. This action returns all the cards from the Waste back to the Stock. You can reset the Stock as many times as desired in this version.
- Move a King to the Foundation: Kings have a rank of 13 and cannot be matched with any other card. To remove a King, simply select it once.
- Undo moves: You can undo moves as many times as you like. The game provides unlimited undos. However, each Undo is considered a new move, so use them cautiously if your goal is to minimize your move count.
Winning:
A game is considered won when all the cards from the Pyramid are eliminated. It's important to note that not all games are winnable, and the game will notify you if there's no possibility of winning.
Time and Moves:
The game keeps track of the moves made and measures the time taken to complete the game. This allows you to compete against your previous best games. The best possible game involves not using the Stock at all and always eliminating two cards at a time from the Pyramid (excluding Kings). In this case, your move count would be 14.
Variations:
There are numerous variations of Pyramid Solitaire with different rules. Some variations include multiple Waste piles, not resetting the Stock, having a face-up Stock, and many others. This particular variation has been chosen based on personal preference. Please refrain from emailing or leaving negative feedback regarding its "correctness" since multiple possibilities exist in the game.
